Pickerington Central's McKenna Nixt is OSU Wexner Medical Center Athlete of Week
In a vote that ended April 26, Dispatch.com readers selected the The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center high school Athlete of the Week for competitions that took place from before April 21.
This week's winner is Pickerington Central softball player McKenna Nixt.
Nixt hit two home runs in games against Granville, Groveport and Central Crossing and one against Licking Valley. She has seven home runs this season, 12th most in the state. She is hitting .368 with a 1.000 slugging percentage, 17 RBIs and 12 runs.
Nixt received 41.8% of the vote and was followed by teammate Sophia Kounouzvelis, who had 35.1%, Dublin Coffman lacrosse player Ava Westmeyer (13.1%), and Bloom-Carroll softball player Ady Luke (10%).
Even though Kounouzvelis, the runner-up, hadn’t played catcher in 10 years, she moved to the position April 19 because of injury and caught five innings with one caught stealing in two attempts against Newark and caught seven innings with one caught stealing in two attempts against Licking Valley. She went 1 for 2 against Lancaster and 3 for 3 against Newark and is hitting .300.
Westmeyer had four goals, one assist and two ground balls against Olentangy Orange and six goals against Columbus Academy. She hit a milestone of 100 career points.
Luke hit .565 with an on-base percentage of .583, 13 hits 11 runs and one strikeout in six games with 24 plate appearances.

Nominations are due Monday mornings for competitions that took place the previous week.
