More gold for North East

Curlett edged Mount Carmel's Xaiver Diaz by .03.

Mercyhurst Prep star Camden Bryant, his right hamstring wrapped, all but walked his 100 meters to finish eight. Bryant suffered his injury Friday during his anchor leg of the Lakers' 400 relay heat.

North East gets another PIAA gold medalist

Less than 24 hours after the Grapepickers' Noah Crozier was the gold medalist for state's Class 2A boys high jump competition, Abby Malesiewski also stood atop the meet's podium after Saturday morning's 2A girls 100-meter hurdles.

The freshman, by a margin of time too small to be listed on the official results, lived up to her status as the event's top seed. She and Montrose senior Chloe Diaz were each listed with championship final times of 14.85 seconds. However, PIAA officials checked the tape and determined Malesiewski was the victor. She was the fastest of three District 10 athletes who qualified for that face.

Fort LeBoeuf senior Ella Corritore placed sixth at 15.35 and Seneca senior Morgan Wilhelm seventh at 15.72.

Butler's Drew Griffith breaks PIAA 3A boys' 3,200 record

A day after setting the PIAA and national federation record in the 1,600, Butler's Drew Griffith broke the PIAA record in the 3,200 in Saturday's first event.

Griffith led the first lap but settled in behind silver medalist Ryan Pajak of Ringgold for the next two laps. By the halfway point he had regained the lead, opened it after five laps and started lapping the field in the sixth lap.

He needed a sub-70 second final lap to break the national record, but came up 6 seconds shy of that. The Notre Dame recruit ran a 1:05.93 in the final lap.
