Photos, videos show significant tornado damage in Temple after Wednesday severe storms

A tornado swept through parts of Central Texas Wednesday evening, causing significant damage to the Bell County area.

A supercell thunderstorm escalated to at least one possible tornado, which ripped through the area around 6:30 p.m. The National Weather Service posted an urgent warning to residents moments before the disaster.

The city of Temple, northeast of Austin, has issued a disaster declaration amid dangerous conditions. Several of the city's facilities will remain closed Thursday.

The Wilson Recreation Center is currently operating as a shelter for those displaced by the disaster. The Central Texas Red Cross is also responding, and those in need of assistance have been encouraged to call 1-800-RED-CROSS.

As of Thursday morning, first responders had not reported any deaths or fatal injuries.

Videos and images of the storm's aftermath show overturned vehicles, downed power lines and serious structural damage.
