Caeleb Dressel and his wife, Meghan, produced one of the most-heartwarming moments of the Summer Olympics to date on Wednesday night.

The star United States swimmer took home the gold in the men’s 100M freestyle final. It was one of the most-thrilling events of the Tokyo Games thus far.

Dressel, the greatest American male swimmer since Michael Phelps, was the favorite in the event. He ended up just barely taking him first place in epic fashion.

Meghan Dressel, the wife of the United States star, was shown during the broadcast on NBC. She was in tears as her husband finished in first place. Then, we got a really cool moment post-race, when Dressel was able to call his family and video-chat.

Caeleb Dressel, a Florida native, has been married to Meghan Dressel since February of 2021. However, the couple has known each other for much longer.

The couple reportedly met as teens, thanks to swimming. They’ve reportedly been together since high school.

“Meghan and I swam at Bolles together, in the late-night group because we didn’t go to school there,” Caeleb Dressel told FINA, “She mainly did breaststroke but she stopped competing her sophomore year [at Florida State University in Tallahassee], to pursue her dream of becoming a child-family counselor.”

Meghan Dressel now works as a family counselor, while Caeleb Dressel is still starring inside of the pool.

The emotions poured out of both Caeleb and Meghan, and the rest of their family, following the 100M freestyle final on Wednesday night.

It’s been a tough Olympics this year due to the pandemic. Fans are not allowed inside of the venues, preventing the usual special moments between athletes and their loved ones.

Meghan Dressel is used to the life of being with a professional athlete, though, as there’s often travel and inconsistent schedules.

“Both of us just make time for each other whenever we can and we’ve made it work for two years now being across state,” Meghan previously told The Oddessy. “I think because we’ve had to deal with distance, it’s made us stronger as a couple.”

Hopefully we’ll get some more special moments – virtual ones, anyway – between Caeleb and Meghan moving forward in the Summer Olympics.
