It hasn’t been a great couple of weeks for PGA Tour star Phil Mickelson, who’s been losing sponsorships left and right following his controversial comments on the Saudi “Super League.”
Mickelson, one of the best PGA Tour stars of all-time, admitted that he’s willing to look past the Saudis’ poor record on human rights.
The left-handed golfer ended up apologizing for what he said.
“They’re scary motherf****** to get involved with,” Mickelson said of the Saudis, per Alan Shipnuck.
“We know they killed [Washington Post reporter and U.S. resident Jamal] Khashoggi and have a horrible record on human rights. They execute people over there for being gay. Knowing all of this, why would I even consider it? Because this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to reshape how the PGA Tour operates.”
As part of his apology, Mickelson admitted he will be stepping away from the golf course for the time being. He will be spending more time with his family.
Mickelson has been married to his wife, Amy Mickelson, since 1996.

Phil and Amy have three children together – Evan, Sophia and Amanda.
Amy went through a breast cancer battle in 2009. Phil suspended his PGA Tour schedule to be by his wife’s side. Thankfully, Amy’s cancer was detected at an early stage.
Mickelson went on to win The Masters the following year, as Jim Nantz called it a “win for the family.”

Phil and Amy have been by each other’s side for more than two decades. Look for that to continue as Phil steps away from the PGA Tour for the time being.
