Photos: 275 graduate from Travelers Rest High, 'one of the most successful classes'

Travelers Rest Valedictorian Rian Sharp is proud of the legacy she and her 274 fellow graduates left on the school and in the community.

With the class's hardships, Sharp reflected on the time spent at Travelers Rest High School on the stage at Bon Secours Wellness Arena on Thursday, May 23.

"I'll be the first to say that sometimes the journey kind of sucks. That being said, the last 12 months especially have taught me the importance of being present in the moment when it counts," Sharp said. "As we tackle the next chapter of our lives, it's my hope that you all will look forward to the future but not anticipate it. Learn from your past mistakes, but not dwell on them."

As Principal Woodrow Bruce pointed out, the Class of 2024 faced tremendous hardships as they began their high school careers with the COVID-19 pandemic, but the graduates still excelled during their four years of high school.

"This is one of the most successful classes we have had academically since I have been here for five years," Bruce said. "I believe we had eight International Baccalaureate diploma candidates for graduation. We won't know that for sure until July, but before that, we hadn't had any."

"It's just an overall great class. They're going to do great things. They're great people in addition to being smart students and that's always what we look for. You can have the book smarts, if you're not good people, you're going to have limited opportunities. That is not the case with this class, so sky is the limit for them," he said.
