Phoebe Bridgers shares her own abortion story as Supreme Court seems poised to overturn Roe v. Wade

Phoebe Bridgers wants everyone to be able to get an abortion as easily as she did.

The “Kyoto” singer revealed her own abortion Tuesday, hours after Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts confirmed the legitimacy of a leaked draft that would reverse Roe v. Wade.

“I had an abortion in October of last year while I was on tour,” she tweeted. “I went to Planned Parenthood where they gave me the abortion pill. It was easy. Everyone deserves that kind of access.”

The draft, written by Justice Samuel Alito and published Monday by Politico, would repeal the 1973 Roe v. Wade decision, which established a constitutional right to abortion. Justices Clarence Thomas, Neil Gorsuch, Brett Kavanaugh and Amy Coney Barrett are believed to agree with Alito.

Bridgers, 27, also included a link to resources, including “a big list of places you can donate to right now” to help fund abortions in states that have already severely limited access to women in need.

The singer has frequently been outspoken about protecting abortion rights, including last year when Texas Gov. Greg Abbott signed a bill that banned abortions after six weeks of pregnancy. Proceeds from her cover of Bo Burnham’s “That Funny Feeling” went to Texas Abortion Funds, which splits donations between 10 different groups that help people in the state get abortions.

“This one’s for Greg Abbott,” she wrote on Instagram when she released the song.

The Supreme Court’s decision is not final and a spokesperson for the bench stressed that “it does not represent a decision by the Court or the final position of any member on the issues in the case.”
