Although National Adopt a Shelter Pet Day may have passed, it is never too late to adopt a furry companion. Accordingly, PetPlace has launched a new nationwide program to encourage people to adopt dogs and cats, especially 15 “Worth the Wait” dogs and cats that have been looking for a forever home for a collective 8,281 days. The organization is waiving the adoption fees of these shelter pets to promote their website’s new features, as they can help with the adoption process, per PR Newswire.

PetPlace aimed to get all 15 dogs and cats a loving home by National Adopt a Shelter Pet Day. However, 14 of them are still up for adoption and looking for loving parents. The program also aims to bring animal shelter overcrowding into the spotlight, encouraging more people to adopt their furry friends.

The organization has close to 270,000 animals that are ready for adoption, covering nearly 8,700 animal shelters and rescue groups under their network. PetPlace’s “Worth the Wait” program is for dogs and cats that have spent an incredibly long time in animal shelters. The selected ones have spent hundreds, if not thousands, of days waiting for a forever home and are available for adoption nationwide.

Of the 15 “Worth the Wait” pets, Shiba Inu Marshmallow has already found a forever home after waiting 366 days in a shelter. However, Pit Bull Terrier mix Jay Jay, French Bulldog Lily, Retriever mix Waylon, Pit Bull Terrier mix Jersey, Blue Lacy mix Roux, Pit Bull Terrier mix Jamal, and many more are still looking for loving homes. Along with the canines, the program includes Shorthair cat mixes Charlotte, Hopper, Max, and Murray, who are also ready for adoption.
