Petersburg native Belinda Todd stars in movie: Watch Christmas comedy on big screen

PETERSBURG — Watch local actor Belinda Todd on the big screen. The Petersburg native has a role in "The Perfect Christmas," an independent film written, directed and produced by Anthony Hackett of Maryland.

"Anthony is an African American film maker and, out of hundreds of independent film makers, this movie was chosen to be shown in selected Regal Cinemas across the country," Todd said. "Starring in this production is Anthony's little daughter Amirah, who is awesome. My role is grandmother of the family. The movie is funny, family-friendly and faith-based."

"The Perfect Christmas" hit theaters nationwide on December 8. It is currently playing at the Colonial Heights Regal Cinema. A "The Perfect Christmas" Facebook post on November 9 last year stated, "Belinda Todd has a rare combination of beauty, elegance, professionalism and talent." Todd's captivating audition landed her the role of Rosaline, the grandmother.

The family Christmas comedy is about the Perfects, Michael, his wife Denise and their two children Devin and Michelle, an American family who experience a nostalgic holiday that takes place mostly over the course of Christmas Eve. The feature film explores faith, family and holiday fun. The Perfect family must navigate the holiday season through outrageous misadventures, criminal activity, posh friends and crazy predicaments that threaten their opportunity for the perfect Christmas.

"I'm so proud of and excited to see my friend Belinda Todd in this holiday movie," Rev. Mialena Zachary of Charlottesville posted on Facebook. "Belinda is living proof that you are never too old to start something new and look at her now, playing 'grandma' on the big screen!"

I asked Todd what inspired her to become an actor. She responded, "I was retired and always wanted to. It was something I did in high school and college. With trepidation, I auditioned for a play and got the role. That led to commercials from Maryland to North Carolina. It took off from there."
