Perry coaches receive major awards from Ohio High School Wrestling Coaches Association

Perry head wrestling coach Brent McBurney recently earned two major awards from the Ohio High School Wrestling Coaches Association. McBurney was named the OHSWCA Coach of the Year for Division I as well as the OHSWCA Coach of the Year across all divisions.

The entire Perry wrestling coaching staff was also honored by the OHSWCA. They received the OHSWCA Assistant Staff of the Year.

"Any and all postseason accolades are a testament to and reflection of the collective efforts of our entire coaching staff and outstanding student-athletes," McBurney said in a statement provided by Perry Local Schools. "I am incredibly proud of each and every member of the Perry wrestling family for their hard work and dedication."

Perry's assistant coaches are Gary Define, Flint McCollins, David Bavery, Jared Campbell, Tim Anderson, Max Millin, Dan Genetin, Dante Rini, Dick Maier, Pat McLemore and Travis Kovach.

McBurney and his staff guided Perry to a second-place finish at the OHSWCA Division I state duals this season. The Panthers also sent eight wrestlers to the individual OHSAA Division I state tournament this winter. Aidan Fockler won a state championship at heavyweight for the Panthers at that event. Perry also posted two second-place finishes.
