Perris Jones, Virginia RB who suffered scary injury vs. Louisville, to be discharged from hospital

Perris Jones is headed home.

Nearly three weeks after a terrifying injury, Jones will be discharged from the Frazier Rehabilitation Institute Tuesday afternoon.

A senior running back for Virginia, Jones suffered the injury during the team's game versus Louisville at L&N Stadium on Nov. 9.

In the final minute of the third quarter of the nationally televised Thursday night game, Jones hauled in a swing pass on a second-and-27 and had turned upfield when he took a massive hit from U of L defensive back Cam'Ron Kelly. The ball came loose as a result of the collision. UVA receiver Malik Washington picked up the ball and dashed 42 yards for a touchdown, giving the visitors a 20-14 lead.

But the Cavaliers' joy quickly turned to sorrow, as Jones remained on the turf.

Medical personnel from U of L and UVA immediately tended to Jones, who was placed on a backboard and taken off the field on a cart.

Jones underwent spine surgery at UofL Hospital, then went through physical and occupational therapy at Frazier Rehabilitation Institute.

Now healthy enough to receive travel clearance, Jones will continue his rehab in Virginia. He is from Alexandria, Virginia.

At the time of his injury, Jones had run for 393 yards and two touchdowns on 76 carries this season.

In 51 career appearances (15 starts) for the Cavaliers dating back to his freshman campaign in 2018, Jones has 160 rushing attempts for 770 yards and four touchdowns. He also has two touchdowns and 153 yards on 14 receptions.
