Thanksgiving is here, which means it's officially the season to curl up by the fireplace (or virtual fireplace) with a cozy book. (We don't make the rules!)

"Cozy mystery" and "cozy fantasy" are well defined subgenres—think Jessica Fletcher solving murders in Cabot Cove, or the early books in the Harry Potte rseries—but it's a bit tricker to nail down exactly what a "cozy" book is. Cozy, as as an adjective, is defined as "enjoying or affording warmth and ease" and "marked by or providing contentment or comfort." So, it follows that a cozy book is a work that conveys that warmth and comfort, and always has a happy ending.

"Reading cozy books is a way to create a warm and inviting atmosphere that allows you to curl up with a good story and forget about the outside world for a while. It’s a form of escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life and a chance to immerse yourself in a world of your choosing," author Esme Addison writes on Due South.

If you're done watching part one of The Crown, and are looking for something with perhaps a happier ending, here are 15 of the best cozy books to read right now—from mysteries to fantasy to how-to guides on a cozy lifestyle.

Little Women

What's a better winter read than the classic Little Women by Louisa May Allcott? The story has had something of a renaissance in recent years, thanks to Greta Gerwig's adaptation, but nothing beats reading the original text.
