How Peoria-area boys swimmers and divers fared at the 2024 IHSA state finals

WESTMONT — One Peoria-area swimmer advanced from the preliminary round of the Illinois High School Association boys swimming and diving state finals Friday at the FMC Natatorium.

Riley Stevenson of Galesburg swam the 50-yard freestyle in 20.78 seconds, earning a spot in the 11 a.m. Saturday finals. The senior won a swim-off against Alek Arsic from Chicago Lane Tech to secure the eighth seed.

Stevenson was 0.57 seconds off from the top prelim time by Chicago St. Ignatius senior Stephen Grud (20.21 seconds).

In total, four relays, seven individual swimmers and three divers in seven events had qualified for state from the sectional level. Here is how Peoria-area boys swimmers and divers fared during those prelims:
