'People will give Slot more leniency'

West Ham striker Michail Antonio believes Liverpool's probable appointment of Feyenoord manager Arne Slot is the "right decision". He feels that given Slot's profile is not as high as other contenders he will be afforded more time in the role.

Slot is set to replace outgoing manager Jurgen Klopp in the summer after a compensation deal worth up to £9.4m was agreed with the Dutch side last Friday.

The 45-year-old led Feyenoord to the 2022-23 Eredivisie title, while this season they have won the Dutch Cup and will likely finish second in their league.

"I think it's the right decision," Antonio told the Footballer's Football Podcast. "I feel like them doing this is sensible because people don't know who he is. They are going to have to give him time.

"If it was a big name, then that big person who comes in, within two or three games we would be hearing things like 'he's horrendous - we need to get rid of him'.

"But, by bringing in someone most people don't really, people are going to give him more leniency and more time to build his team and actually become something."

Fulham captain Tom Cairney added: "Do you know when Ralf Rangnick got the Manchester United job? It feels a bit like that. I didn't know about him either.

"I'm not saying there will be the same outcome but it feels like that."
