Our People: Donna Corn knows about relocating

Nov. 4—Donna Corn was born in California.

How she got from The Golden State to The Land of Enchantment and became a mom, a New Mexico associate broker and Realtor with Kathy Corn REALTORS® Inc. was the subject of an interview with The News Thursday.

Q: What is the story of you and Clovis?

A: I am not from Clovis originally. I grew up in the Central Valley of California in Lodi.

I joined the Air Force right out of high school. I got orders to go to Japan and then I was assigned to Cannon Air Force Base.

I met my husband, Charlie Corn Jr.. He grew up here.

After being at Cannon for four years I separated from the military and we moved to Sacramento, Calif. for four years, then we came back to Clovis.

It was a hard decision. I was ready to be a California real estate agent when we decided to move to Clovis.

We wanted to help my mother-in-law, Kathy Corn, with her business.

I'm very grateful to be able to live and work in Clovis.

Q: Tell us about your family.

A: I have two children and they are awesome: Charles Corn III who is 5 and in kindergarten, and my daughter Natalie who is 16-years-old and awesome as well.

Natalie paints and draws, very creative. Charles loves to build with Legos and he also draws.

My husband, Charlie, is a wonderful man and I love him very much. He is a wonderful father to our babies.

We also have "fur kids," three dogs and a cat.

I'm happy that we have extended family here in Clovis.

One of my brothers, John Hale, moved to Clovis from California this year. He was tired of California. He seems happy here.

My in-laws Kathy and Charles Corn are here along with my niece and her family.

Q: Before you got into real estate what did you do?

A: In high school I briefly worked at JoAnn's Fabric. Then I was in the Air Force for eight years, and I was a medic. After the Air Force I went back and worked at JoAnn's Fabric for a bit.

While I was there I was also a college student at Sacramento City College studying biology then I switched to a business program with an emphasis on real estate. That was a really good program.

Q: What attracted you to real estate?

A: Charlie's family got me interested in real estate.

Q: What do you like about the real estate field?

A: I love helping people, whoever I can. I do listings and sales but I work primarily in property management. I'm working with people who are relocating to Cannon.

They are prospective tenants, they want to know about available rentals, applications, working with owners with properties they manage.

Q: Looking around your office you have some items that seem to indicate you are a fan of the TV show "The Office." What's the story?

A: I love the show. I love it so much I have a framed picture of (show character) Dwight Schrupe on my office wall. Dwight loves his job, loves working with the company's product, paper, and I feel inspired by his love for his job and his motivation and drive. Dwight motivates me to be better at my job in real estate.

I have built The Office Lego set and I have it on a shelf in my office.

I love the show.

Q: Do you feel "The Office" represents what goes on in most offices in the USA?

A: No sir.

Q: Do you have a hobby or two you enjoy?

A: I love building Lego sets. I have the Disney Castle Lego set. It took me a few months to build because it's so large. I have a couple of Star Wars Lego sets including the X-Wing Fighter. I have Christmas Lego sets.

I also have some botanical Lego sets, beautiful flowers. I have the bonsai tree set and I'm looking forward to building that.

I like other crafts like jewelry making, reading fiction and non-fiction. My favorite book is "The Painted House" by John Grisham.

And I like hanging out with my kids and my dogs and my husband, of course.

Q: What's your favorite food?

A: Cheese enchiladas with green sauce at Leal's.

Q: Do you have a favorite saying?

A: I have a favorite quote I like to revisit often. I first heard it from my older sister who passed away when I was in middle school:

"It doesn't matter what happens in your life, it's what you make of it."

That quote helps me feel motivated. No matter what's happening in your life you'll always get through it.
