Pensacola man dies in hit-and-run after being struck by two vehicles on Palafox

A 54-year-old Pensacola pedestrian is dead after two cars hit him Wednesday night while he attempted to cross U.S. 29/Palafox Street.

Florida Highway Patrol responded to Palafox Street at John Gray Road where the incident happened just after 9 p.m., but one of the drivers fled the scene before law enforcement arrived.

According to FHP, the first vehicle was traveling south on Palafox street approaching John Gray Road at the same time a pedestrian crossed U.S. 29 from east to west. Not able to see the pedestrian, the 62-year-old driver struck the man.

A Dodge Avenger was also traveling south on Palafox directly behind the first vehicle and also struck the pedestrian. The driver, who has not been identified, fled the scene.

The driver of the first vehicle did not suffer any injuries, according to FHP's report.
