PEMBROKE – The number of town employees making at least $100,000 a year jumped by more than two dozen from 2022 to 2023.
In the calendar year 2022, 116 town employees were paid $100,000 or more, and 27 employees made at least $150,000, according to salary data provided by the town.
The number of employees making at least $100,000 jumped to 146 in calendar year 2023 and 29 employees made $150,000 or more.
School Superintendent Erin Obey is the only employee who isn't a member of the police or fire departments to make the list of the top 10 highest-paid employees. School superintendents are often one of the highest-paid municipal employees, and Obey's salary is on par with surrounding districts.
Police officers made up 22 of the town's top 50 earners in 2023, while firefighters made up 14 of the top 50. Their base salaries are often padded with overtime pay and paid details.
In total, the town paid $38.7 million in salaries, stipends and one-time payments in calendar year 2023.
