Pedestrian seriously injured by driver on Pacific Avenue in Spanaway, troopers say

Washington State Patrol troopers are investigating after a pedestrian was struck and seriously injured by a driver Monday afternoon on Pacific Avenue in Spanaway.

Troopers said a 27-year-old man was hit by a 52-year-old woman driving a Honda sedan near 173rd Street South. Detectives are working to determine where the man was standing, but photos shared by WSP appeared to show that it occurred near a crosswalk.

The incident led to northbound Pacific Avenue, also known as state Route 7, being fully blocked while emergency responders and investigators were on the scene. Troopers said traffic was being diverted through one of the southbound lanes.

Pierce County Sheriff’s Department and state troopers responded to the collision, which was reported at about 1:15 p.m. The pedestrian was transported to a local hospital. The driver remained at the incident.

Trooper Robert Reyer said this is the second injury collision involving pedestrians or bicyclists that troopers have responded to since Friday. Also on Friday in Tacoma, a pedestrian was struck and killed on Pacific Avenue in a hit-and-run.
