Pedestrian dies after being struck by vehicle late Friday on highway in southwest Topeka

An adult pedestrian died after being struck by a vehicle late Friday on Interstate 470 in the area of S.W. 21st Street, Topeka police said.

The name, age and gender of the deceased person weren’t being released Saturday morning as police remained in the process of locating and notifying next-of-kin.

Officers were called at 11:43 p.m. Friday to the crash scene, where the highway was blocked off and the police accident reconstruction team was investigating, said Topeka police Lt. Mike Hren.

The highway in that area remained closed at 7 a.m. Saturday, said a dispatcher for the Shawnee County Emergency Communications Center.
