Peckham: Three charged after asylum seekers' coach transfer thwarted

Three people have been charged after protesters blocked a coach set to take asylum seekers to the Bibby Stockholm barge in Dorset.

The Met Police said it was called at about 08:40 BST on Thursday to reports of people surrounding a coach at a hotel in Peckham, south-east London.

At about 15:00 it was driven away from the hotel seemingly without passengers, it was reported.

On Friday, three people were charged with obstruction of the highway.

Jony Cink, 24, of Southwark, and Callum Goode, 24, of Ashbourne, Derbyshire, are expected to appear in custody at Westminster Magistrates' Court, however, the Met Police has not been able to specify on what date.

Indea Barbe-Wilson, 31, of Lewisham. is set to appear at the same court on 6 June.

A total of 45 people were arrested.

The Home Office has not confirmed whether there are plans to try again to move the asylum seekers to the barge on another day or if the move has been abandoned.
