Pebble Hills senior baseball player earns postseason honor

Pebble Hills senior baseball player Jake Alvarez isn't done playing high school baseball just yet.

The third baseman and pitcher has been selected to play in the Texas High School Baseball Coaches Association All-Star game on June 16 at Dell Diamond in Round Park.

"It's an honor to be invited," he said. "I want to go out there and give my best with many of the top players in the state. It's a great way to cap my career in high school."

Alvarez played a key role in Pebble Hills' postseason success in 2022 and 2023 when the team won bi-district championships.

"It was a growing experience, lots of good moments in high school," Alvarez said

Alvarez also got the chance to play for his father, Nick, who is the Pebble Hills coach.

"I've been coaching my son since he was four," Nick said. "It's been special and for him to get this opportunity and it happens on Fathers Day means even more. Time has gone fast and he'll remember these days in high school when he gets older."

Jake will continue playing after the All-Star game at Odessa College, a two-year school.

"The goal is to eventually get to the Division I level," said Jake, who will pitch and play third in Odessa. "Odessa is a good program, a place I can go and get better."
