Peaky Blinders star Annabelle Wallis lands next movie role

Peaky Blinders star Annabelle Wallis has landed her next movie role in Chris Pratt and Rebecca Ferguson's thriller Mercy.

The new sci-fi movie was confirmed earlier this month, and comes from director Timur Bekmambetov (Wanted) and writer Marco van Belle (Arthur & Merlin).

Variety now reports that Wallis has come on board, though her role is yet to be disclosed.

Mercy focuses on a detective (played by Pratt) who "finds himself accused of a violent crime and having to prove his innocence in a society where capital crime is on the rise". Like Wallis, Ferguson's role has not been announced.

Wallis is perhaps best known for playing Grace Burgess in Peaky Blinders, and has also appeared in Annabelle and Star Trek: Discovery.

She also starred in 2021 Christmas film Silent Night alongside Keira Knightley and Matthew Goode, and spoke to Digital Spy at the time about why she signed up for the movie.

"I read it, and I found myself laughing at all the truth and the hilarity of the dysfunction. All the universal themes were right there: friendship, love, class, and privilege – all these themes that we're constantly tackling," she said.

"We all love Richard Curtis and all those classic films. I was like, 'Oh, it's very much like that. I kind of know these characters. They all feel quite heightened and deeply uncomfortable all of a sudden'.

"And then it flipped on its head. I was not expecting it. So that's where it got very exciting, and I was like, 'I have to be part of this film'."

Mercy is set to be released in US cinemas on August 15, 2025.
