It was tough to tell just by watching him, but Patrick Mahomes was nursing a serious toe injury in this year’s playoffs.

The former MVP underwent surgery to correct the injury after the Super Bowl and even participated in the Kansas City Chiefs‘ offseason training program.

Mahomes’ status for Week 1 of the upcoming season has never been in doubt. Just in case fans were worried though, he shared an encouraging update on his toe injury during an interview with NFL Network’s Patrick Claybon.

“The toe’s feeling great,” Mahomes said, via NFL.com. “I’m out here playing golf, being able to walk around the course. I’ve been running, cutting, jumping, throwing, doing it all. So I’m just excited to get back to training camp and have another chance to make a run at it and win the Super Bowl this year.”

Last week, a video of Mahomes performing one-on-one drills went viral. He looked very agile and was turning the corner exceptionally well.

Mahomes will need to be at full strength if he wants to reach his goals this upcoming season. During a charity golf event in May, he said that he wants to be the first quarterback to go 20-0.

“The only record that I have my eyes set on breaking – it will be new this year – is going 20-0,” Mahomes said. “To be 20-0 and the first one to do that would be awesome.”

Chiefs fans should expect another monster year from Mahomes.
