Patrick Mahomes created stir at Chiefs camp by buying milkshakes for offensive linemen

It’s about a 10-minute drive from Missouri Western State University to the Chick-fil-A restaurant in St. Joseph, Missouri.

For many Chiefs players, the lure of Chick-fil-A was too strong to ignore, so they ended up eating at the fast-food joint during the recently completed training camp.

That includes Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, who relayed a humorous story to sideline reporter Kimmi Chex during Saturday’s preseason win over the Washington Commanders.

Mahomes said he was in the drive thru when he noticed the Chiefs offensive linemen and receivers in the restaurant.

“So I thought the smart thing to do was give the o-line milkshakes, and so I gave all the o-linemen milkshakes,” Mahomes said. “And of course the receivers immediately were mad because they didn’t get milkshakes, too. So I’ll have to think of a cool gift to get the receivers and make sure that they stay happy as well.”

Chex, who had heard this story at Chiefs camp a few days earlier, said Mahomes joked the receivers won’t be happy just to receive milkshakes.

“Yeah, they have a little bit more expensive tastes but I’m gonna keep it nice and easy,” Mahomes said. “So I’m thinking like some video game controllers or something along those lines where they can still have fun with them, but at the same time I’m not spending all my money.”

It’s worth noting that Mahomes had a grin on his face as he recounted the story, so there’s no need to call it MilkshakeGate or ShakeGate or anything like that.

I think it’s cool that the Chiefs receivers and offensive linemen were hanging out away from the field at training camp.
