Passenger killed, driver seriously injured in two-vehicle crash near Roseville, CHP says

A two-vehicle collision Monday killed a passenger and left his driver with serious injuries near Roseville, authorities said.

California Highway Patrol officers were told of a collision about 6:45 p.m. at the intersection of Walerga Road and Doyle Ranch Drive, near residential neighborhoods, the CHP’s Auburn office said in a news release.

Officer Yvette Norman, the CHP’s Auburn office spokeswoman, declined to detail the incident’s cause but said a driver and a passenger were in a Mazda 3 and were involved in the collision with a Mercedes-Benz.

A male passenger died in the collision, which also severely injured another man, Norman wrote in an email. The Mercedes driver, a man, complained of pain and was taken to a hospital, she said.

Norman the collision and its cause are still under investigation. The passenger’s identity has not been released pending notification of family by Placer County coroner’s officials.

“The incident ... has left the community in shock and mourning,” CHP officials said in the news release.
