Passaic County announces $773,000 in grants for towns, nonprofits. See the list

Passaic County officials this week announced more than $772,000 in pending grant awards for a dozen area towns and nonprofits.

Set to come from the county's 2024 Community Development Block Grant allocation, the 12 awards will fund renovations, improvements, and community programs throughout the county if approved, records show.

The awards were recommended by the Passaic County Department of Planning and Economic Development officials and are likely to be approved by county commissioners following a public hearing scheduled for June 11.

Expected award winners include eight municipalities and four not-for-profit organizations. Hawthorne is set to receive $60,000 for wheelchair-accessible ramps to dovetail with a prior $200,000 award from the Passaic County Open Space Grant for new bleachers at Franklin Field.

Meanwhile, Bloomingdale's pending $70,000 grant would go toward rehabilitating the borough's senior center. Earlier this year, the borough sought approval to use awards from 2022 and 2023 totaling $150,000 for the project centered on the reconstruction of the Bloomingdale Senior Center's 2,500-square-foot floor, including the sub-floor and finished flooring. According to borough records, the project will involve the replacement of non-structural interior walls.

The largest pending award, totaling $112,678, is expected to boost Passaic County Habitat for Humanity's Critical Repair Program for low- and —moderate-income county residents in need of vital home repairs. Though not currently accepting applications, the program is designed to benefit owners of owner-occupied, single-family homes in Paterson's Northside, as well as Haledon, North Haledon, Prospect Park, Ringwood and West Milford.
