Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie reprise their ‘The Simple Life’ Sonic jobs ahead of reboot
Two of the 2000’s most famous heiresses are returning to “The Simple Life.”
On Aug. 5, Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie were photographed working at drive-in restaurant Sonic in Duarte, California. The pair looked as though they were right back on set of “The Simple Life” and posed for pictures with fans.
The stars were wearing hats and aprons, and donned name tags on their Sonic T-shirts — there were multiple outfit changes, of course.
Hilton later ditched her uniform and posed next to the fast-food chain’s sign in a Self-Portrait dress and bedazzled purse with “Paris” spelled out in sparkling gems. Richie put on a hot dog costume — the Sonic mascot — for a walk around the property with her bestie in tow.
“The Simple Life” series premiered on Dec. 2, 2003, and ran until Aug. 5, 2007. It followed Hilton and Richie as they accepted various jobs along the East Coast, including farming, fast-food and more.
While the title of the purported reboot hasn’t been announced, Hilton, Richie and Peacock posted a teaser announcement on Instagram on May 13, which featured a familiar audio moment from the show’s original run.
“New Era. Same Besties. 👯♀️ Coming soon to Peacock,” read the caption.
Representatives for Peacock confirmed a new series with Hilton and Richie is in the works at the streaming network, but declined to share any additional details.
On Aug. 7, Hilton also gave a peek into what she and Richie were doing at the fast-food spot, sharing photos from the day on Threads.
“Sliving at Sonic ✨🌭 20 years later and @NicoleRichie and I are back at our favorite job 🥰 #Sanasa 👯♀️ #TheSimpleLife #SillAndBill,” she wrote.
Fans of the pair’s original reality show — which aired on both Fox and E! — likely experienced some déjà vu as Hilton and Richie have been in Sonic uniforms before.
In Season 1, Episode 3, “Sonic Burger Shenanigans,” the pair were hired to work at the drive-in, but showed up to their first day 45 minutes late. They poured drinks and used the drive-thru speaker before they got bored and were annoyed by the job. That’s when they started pranking their coworkers and went dancing after they got scolded.
TODAY.com reached out to Sonic for confirmation on whether the duo is back, but a representative is tight-lipped for now: “While we cannot comment on the names or employment records of our crew members, we can share that a couple of our most iconic former carhops were rehired for a shift at our Duarte, California Drive-In yesterday,” a Sonic Drive-In representative tells TODAY.com via email. “We cannot confirm any names, but we can confirm fun was had by both crew members and guests. 😉”
