Paranormal Activity is being turned into a stage play.

The hugely successful found-footage horror franchise is being turned into a play by Simon Friend, the producer responsible for bringing Life of Pi to Broadway.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Friend has acquired the license to turn the Paramount horror series into a West End show under his production company Simon Friend Entertainment.

Levi Holloway, the man behind the Broadway play Grey House, is on board to write the stage adaptation, which is in early development.

The found-footage horror franchise, which so far consists of seven movies with an eighth in the works, usually follows the formula of a family being haunted by a demon or demons.

Created by Oren Peli, who served as writer and director of 2009's Paranormal Activity, the films usually combine a series of CCTV shots as well as phone, webcam and other camera footage.

Previously speaking about the future of the franchise, Blumhouse boss Jason Blum said Paranormal Activity: Next of Kin (aka Paranormal Activity 7) was a "terrible" movie and teased the end of the franchise.

"It has been enough already. That last Paranormal Activity movie was terrible," Blum revealed in an interview with Vanity Fair.

"With Halloween, we only had the rights to three movies, so we said: Halloween Ends! It ends for Blumhouse, at least. With other things, you just have this feeling it's time to put them to bed."

Despite his thoughts on the current state of the franchise, Blum said he was open to rebooting the series of films if someone he admires wishes to give it a go.

"It would come back if some director I love, like Scott Derrickson, said: 'I have a great idea for a Paranormal Activity movie'. But it's not something I want to do [at the moment]."
