An SUV missing two tires was stopped along Florida’s Interstate 75, and the driver says paranormal activity was behind the disappearance, the Marion County Sheriff’s Office reports.

It happened, he said, because someone put a curse on him, according to an Oct. 28 news release.

The traffic stop occurred around 4 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 23, on an Interstate 75 ramp near Marion Oaks, the sheriff’s office said. Marion Oaks is about 65 miles northwest of Orlando.

“Deputy Wilson ... noticed that the tires were not only deflated but that he was driving on what remained of the rim,” the sheriff’s office said.

“When the deputy asked about the damage to the vehicle, (the driver) stated someone had put a curse on him and that he hit a curb a little hard.”

The driver, who lives in Tampa, said the mishap led to a “do or die” choice: Drive home without tires or set the SUV on fire and sleep on the median, according to body cam video.

“Somebody put a curse on me,” the driver says. “That is paranormal activity.”

Suspecting another kind of spirits may be involved, deputies asked the 29-year-old driver to submit to sobriety tests.

He agreed, but became increasingly agitated, spitting on deputies, threatening to attack them, kicking them and trying to take one deputy’s taser from its holster, the sheriff’s office said.

“If you mess with me right now, let me tell you something, I’m going to break your head with a baseball bat,” the driver is heard telling a deputy. “I’m going to ... skin you alive.”

Deputies arrested the driver and charged him with: “Two counts of battery on a law enforcement officer; resisting an officer with violence; attempt to deprive an officer of means of protection or communication; corrupt by threat against public servant, and driving under the influence.”

“He now faces up to 25.5 years of imprisonment and is being held on a $27,000 bond,” the sheriff’s office said.
