Parachutist at Homestead air base suffers traumatic injury, Miami-Dade fire-rescue says

A person suffered a traumatic injury in a parachuting accident at Homestead Air Reserve Base Monday morning, according to Miami-Dade County Fire Rescue.

Paramedics were called to the South Miami-Dade military base shortly after 10 a.m., said fire-rescue spokesman Anthony Nunez.

The person was taken to Jackson South Medical Center in Kendall, Nunez said.

It is not immediately known if the injured person is a soldier in the U.S. Army.

The Army’s Golden Knights parachute demonstration team moves its operations from Fort Bragg, North Carolina, to Homestead every winter.

A spokesperson with the parachute team confirmed there was a “hard landing” at the base by a “parachutist” Monday morning during a “routine parachute jump.”

However, the spokesperson, Megan Hackett, would not confirm whether the person injured is an Army soldier or a member of the Golden Knights.

“At this time, the accident is under investigation and no further details are available about the incident,” she said in an email. “Identities of the injured are being withheld pending notification of family.”
