The Carolina Panthers worked out wide receiver Ryan Switzer on Tuesday, according to Pro Football Talk’s Michael David Smith.

Switzer is aiming to play his first NFL game since 2019. After spending most of 2020 on the Cleveland Browns’ practice squad, a foot injury sent him to the injured reserve last summer.

Drafted in the fourth round by the Dallas Cowboys, Switzer served primarily as a special teamer during his 2017 rookie campaign. The North Carolina alum then went to the Pittsburgh Steelers, where he submitted 253 of his 321 career receiving yards and his lone touchdown in 2018.

Switzer has his fingers crossed following Tuesday’s tryout with Carolina.

The 5-foot-8 receiver ended his collegiate career with 1,112 receiving yards and six touchdowns as a senior for the Tar Heels. While he’s yet to find that success in the NFL, the 27-year-old is seeking a comeback in 2022.

The Panthers lack receiving depth behind starters DJ Moore and Robby Anderson, so it doesn’t hurt to give Switzer a closer look.
