The Carolina Panthers and Miami Dolphins have reportedly agreed to a trade involving a former second-rounder on Tuesday afternoon just a few weeks before the start of the 2021 regular season.

According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, the Panthers will send offensive lineman Greg Little to the Dolphins in exchange for a 2022 seventh-round pick. Carolina confirmed the deal in an official press release.

Little, 23, was apparently in danger of not making the Panthers final 53-man roster, per the team’s announcement. As a result, Carolina decided to trade him away to the Dolphins and get draft compensation in return.

He’ll now hope for a fresh start in Miami. He likely won’t factor into the Dolphins offensive line right away, but should provide some depth should one of the team’s starters go down at some point during the year.

The Panthers drafted Little in the second round in 2019 with the 37th overall pick. He arrived in Carolina after a first-team All-SEC 2018 season at Ole Miss, but injuries sidetracked his rookie year. He played in four games and made just three starts before he was placed on injured reserve.

Little returned in 2020 and played in 10 games, making three more starts from the Panthers. He landed back on injured reserve in December as the season started to wind down.

At 23 years old, Little has plenty of time to re-establish himself as a reliable offensive lineman in the eyes of the league. He’ll need to do his best to stay healthy and hope that he gets an opportunity with the Dolphins this fall.
