Pair charged with murder in connection to dismemberment of Yonkers couple on Long Island
Two people were indicted on murder charges in connection with the February killing and dismemberment of a former Yonkers couple living on Long Island, the Suffolk County District Attorney's Office announced Monday.
Jeffrey Mackey, 36, and Alexis Nieves, 33, both of Amityville, each face second-degree murder charges in connection with the death of former Yonkers residents Malcolm "Craig" Brown, 53, and Donna Conneely, 59. Mackey was charged with two counts and Nieves one count. The pair, along with two others ‒ Steven Brown, 44, and Amanda Wallace, 40 ‒ were arraigned Friday for roles in the alleged plot.
Mackey is originally from White Plains and Nieves is from Valhalla, according to social media accounts, which also list Mackey and Nieves as having two children together.
According to a news release from Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond Tierney, a Suffolk County Police Department investigation showed that Malcolm Brown and Conneely were allegedly stabbed at 25 Railroad Ave. in Amityville on Feb. 27. Police say Malcolm Brown was stabbed once in the neck and torso and Conneely was stabbed multiple times in the neck and back.
The investigation found that Mackey, Nieves and Steven Brown allegedly planned to kill the victims before they entered the residence on Railroad Avenue.
After the stabbings, Tierney said the defendants allegedly dismembered Brown and Conneely's bodies in a bathroom and left the remains in Southards Pond Park, Bethpage State Park and a wooded area in West Babylon. Some of Brown's body parts were found in Southards Pond Park on Feb. 29 by a local resident. Conneely's head and torso were later found by police not far from the first location.
Tierney said police recovered several cutting instruments including knives and meat cleavers at the Amityville residence, where all four defendants appeared to be staying at the time. Blood was also allegedly found in multiple locations throughout the residence.
Tierney said Malcolm Brown, who is Steven Brown's cousin, and his partner Conneely were familiar with all the defendants prior to the murder. Steven Brown and girlfriend Wallace were the primary residents of 25 Railroad Avenue. Mackey and Nieves were also living in the residence at the time.
The defendants were arrested on March 4 on charges of hindering prosecution, tampering with physical evidence and concealment of a human corpse. As the charges made them ineligible for bail, all four were released from jail but were required to wear GPS monitors.
Mackey, Nieves and Brown were charged with second-degree conspiracy and Mackey, Brown and Wallace were charged with first-degree robbery.
Wallace was also arrested for petit larceny after allegedly stealing beauty products from a CVS in Lindenhurst on March 15. Wallace, Mackey and Nieves are currently held in jail on bail.
Brown and Wallace are expected to appear in Suffolk County First District Court on April 30, while Mackey and Nieves are expected to appear back in court on June 3.
According to social media accounts, Malcolm Brown and Conneely had been in a relationship for at least the last seven years and their last known permanent address on record was on Warburton Avenue in Yonkers, but a landlord said last month they had not lived there for at least four years.
