Paddington 3 has confirmed it has recast an original character, and also announced the additions of a number of new exciting names – including Olivia Colman!

Also known as Paddington in Peru, the third instalment in the acclaimed franchise is due to begin production next month.

Variety has now confirmed that star Sally Hawkins is due to step away from her role as Mrs Brown, with Mary Poppins Returns star Emily Mortimer taking over.

On top of that, Oscar winner Colman, Puss in Boots star Antonio Banderas and West Side Story's Rachel Zegler are currently in talks to join the cast.

Speaking about stepping down from her role, Hawkins said: "For me it has felt the right time to hand the reins over to another, and one can't get much better than the truly wonderful Emily Mortimer, she is extraordinarily special.

"She will embody the essence of Mary Brown and yet make it utterly her own. However, I am, and will always be in love with Paddington's world.

"I already greatly miss my on and off-screen family – the experience of making the first two films has truly been some of the best and most creative times I have had in the world of film. They both gave me so much joy.

Regular stars Ben Whishaw and Imelda Staunton will also be back to lend their voices, while Hugh Bonneville, Julie Walters, Jim Broadbent, Madeleine Harris and Samuel Joslin are all also returning.

The story will see the beloved bear return to his birthplace of Peru to visit his Aunt Lucy, this time with the Brown family in tow.

Together, they will embark on an unexpected adventure through the rainforests and peaks of the country.

Dougal Wilson is set to direct the third movie, taking over the reins from Paul King, who oversaw the first two movies.

Paddington in Peru currently has no release date.
