Everything Rick Carlisle said about Pacers Tyrese Haliburton's hamstring injury

BOSTON -- Pacers All-Star point guard Tyrese Haliburton left Thursday night's Game 2 of the Eastern Conference finals with 3:44 to go in the third quarter and did not return.

Pacers coach Rick Carlisle said after a 126-110 loss to the Boston Celtics that Haliburton had left hamstring soreness, but had no details.

"We'll know more tomorrow and probably even more Saturday," Carlisle said.

Carlisle said Haliburton underwent treatment for the injury at halftime.

"He came out and gave it a shot (in the third quarter), was giving all the effort that he could," Carlisle said. "I haven't talked to him about it directly so I can't read minds, but It wasn't going well. The trainers determined he needed to go to the back and get worked on and he was ruled out."

Haliburton strained his hamstring on Jan. 8 in the first half of a win over the Celtics when he tried to stop on a drive and one foot slid when the other one stopped and he ended up in a split. He missed five games, returned for one, then missed five more and spent two weeks on a minutes restriction when he returned.

Carlisle was asked if this injury constitutes an aggravation of that injury and he didn't seem sure what to say beyond noting it was the same hamstring.

"It's the left hamstring and I believe that's the same hamstring as before," Carlisle said. "It's sore. I know there's HIPPA laws and stuff like that. I guess I can safely say it's sore. ... I know you want details. I don't have much other than it's sore."

The Pacers trail the best-of-seven series 2-0, with Game 3 at Gainbridge Fieldhouse at 8:30 p.m. ET Saturday.

Haliburton missed 10 regular-season games with a left hamstring strain, and they went 6-4 in his absence.

Haliburton scored 10 points in 28 minutes on 4 of 8 shooting, and was 2 of 6 from 3-point range. He also dished out eight assists and had four rebounds. Haliburton was named third-team All-NBA on Wednesday after averaging 20.1 points and an NBA-leading 10.9 assists per game in the regular season.
