Pacers Jalen Smith leaves game after taking elbow to head

PHILADELPHIA -- Pacers center Jalen Smith went to the locker room in the second quarter of Tuesday's game against the Philadelphia 76ers after taking an elbow to the head from 76ers forward Marcus Morris Sr, and then was taken to a hospital for tests. He will not return to the game.

Smith spent a possession down on one knee trying to stand. After the Sixers scored, timeout was called so Smith could be attended to by Pacers medical staff. Smith got up and walked off shortly after but seemed dazed.

At halftime, the Pacers PR staff released a statement: "Pacers center Jalen Smith was assessed after leaving tonight's game against the Sixers and the initial diagnosis is a head injury. Out of an abundance of caution, Smith will be transported to a local hospital for additional testing and evaluation. Smith will not return to tonight's game and additional updates will be provided as appropriate."

Smith had five points in 2:33 of action, but also had two fouls. That compounds Pacers centers issues. Isaiah Jackson had four first-half fouls, Myles Turner three and Daniel Theis missed the game.

UPDATE: After the game, which the Pacers won 132-126, Carlisle said he had no further update on Smith's status.
