Ozark's Jason Bateman is attached to appear in and direct Netflix's adaptation of Esquire article 'Daddy Ball'.

According to Deadline's report, a total of eight offers were tabled to acquire the rights to writer David Gauvey Herbert's 2021 magazine piece, which will be retitled and packaged into eight episodes for streaming.

The tale itself will concern two fathers with complicated pasts in Long Island who become locked in a bitter sporting rivalry, with claims of corrupt cops, mob connections and stalking involved.

It's described as "a story about the lengths fathers will go for their sons".

Following his four-season stint starring in Ozark, which came to an end last year, Bateman is also signed up to develop another Netflix TV show titled Black Rabbit, where he'll be joined by Jude Law.

Details are limited so far, but it has been confirmed that he is also due to direct. Both Bateman and Law will also be executive producers on the show.

He's also signed on to direct Netflix's adaptation of Dark Wire, a thriller based on Joseph Cox's book of the same name which details how the FBI set up its own telecommunications company to gather evidence against criminals.

Elsewhere on Bateman's agenda is a big-screen team-up with JJ Abrams (Star Wars) on a sci-fi western known as The Pinkerton.

While the movie's plot is being kept under lock and key for now, the history of the famous Pinkerton Agency suggests bucketloads of action.

Founded by Allan Pinkerton in the mid-1800s, the Pinkertons worked in the security and investigation sectors, and were even hired by Abraham Lincoln as protection during the Civil War.
