Niko's Taverna, a Greek-inspired gastro-pub sports bar in Williamston, opened its doors about a year ago.

Keith Buchele, general manager for owner Gavrilides Management, said the restaurant is "a relatively new player in the Lansing area restaurant game," so the decision to be part of the first-annual Lansing Restaurant Week made sense, he said.

"We really want people to know that we're there," Buchele said.

Beginning Friday, Niko's Taverna is one of 36 area restaurants offering a dish on its menu for $7. The week-long effort, a partnership between Facebook group Lansing Foodies, nonprofit Lansing 5:01, WLNS TV-6 and Lansing City Pulse, encourages residents to explore the area's food scene.

It runs through May 17, said Erin Brains, a Lansing Foodies founder, concluding on 517 Day.

"We intentionally did that because it's kind of a celebration of the food of Lansing leading up to the celebration of Lansing area," she said. "It's a great opportunity for people to take kind of a self-guided tour through all the different types of food that Lansing has to offer without breaking the bank."

Here's what you need to know about the first annual event.
