Over 200 Spirit Airlines flight cancellations lead to massive lines in airports

Rowdy passengers aren’t the only thing keeping many Spirit Airlines flights grounded.

The budget airline canceled 261 flights on Monday, 34% of all the company’s scheduled flights. On Sunday, the airline cancelled 165 flights.

Delays also haven’t been kind to passengers, with a total of 442 flights being delayed between Sunday and Monday.

In cities like Orlando and Fort Lauderdale, Florida, lines at the airports were so long many passengers opted to camp out while waiting to receive a refund or a rebooking.

“It looked like a hurricane shelter,” said Orlando passenger Rebecca Osborn, to USA Today.

“We’re working around the clock to get back on track in the wake of some travel disruptions over the weekend due to a series of weather and operational challenges, said Spirit Airlines spokesman Erik Hofmeyer. “We needed to make proactive cancellations to some flights across the network, but the majority of flights are still scheduled as planned.”

The social media accounts of Las Vegas McCarran Airport, a growing hotspot destination for Spirit Airlines, implored passengers to check their flight status before making their way to the airport.
