'Outlander' Prequel 'Blood of My Blood' Reveals Who Will Play Jamie Fraser's Parents

STARZ today revealed the cast for its upcoming romantic epic Outlander: Blood of My Blood, a prequel to the hit time-traveling drama, Outlander. Based on characters created by Diana Gabaldon for her Outlander series of novels, as previously announced, Blood of My Blood will examine the lives and love story of Jamie Fraser’s (Sam Heughan) parents, Ellen MacKenzie (Harriet Slater) and Brian Fraser (Jamie Roy).

But there was new news in addition to the casting of the two key actors. It was also revealed that in addition to Jamie’s parents’ love story, the 10-episode first season of BMB will also explore the origin story of Claire’s (Caitríona Balfe) parents, Julia Moriston (Hermione Corfield) and Henry Beauchamp (Jeremy Irvine).

That means the series, which will film in Scotland, will be set in two different time periods. Jamie’s parents met and fell in love in the early 18th century Scottish Highlands, while Claire’s parents came together in WWI England.

“We’re thrilled to be telling the stories of these two couples,” says Matthew B. Roberts, showrunner, executive producer and writer on both series. “The origins of their relationships explore universal themes that transcend time periods and we’re so excited for fans to discover and fall in love with these characters and their love stories the way they have with Claire and Jamie.”

Outlander will air the second half of season 7 later this year and will begin filming its 10-episode eighth and final season shortly.

Blood of My Blood will be headed by the same talent that brought Outlander to the screen with the previously mentioned Roberts as showrunner, executive producer and writer. In addition, Ronald D. Moore will serve as an executive producer along with Maril Davis. Moore and Davis developed Outlander for television. Gabaldon, who has yet to write the novel featuring Ellen and Brian’s story, will serve as a consulting producer.
