Outlander: Blood of My Blood Prequel Series Casts Young Murtagh, 3 Others

Starz’s Outlander prequel series has cast younger versions of four familiar characters.

Outlander: Blood of My Blood, as the offshoot is titled, will explore the lives and relationship of Jamie’s parents, Ellen MacKenzie (played by Pennyworth‘s Harriet Slater) and Brian Fraser (Condor’s Nest‘s Jamie Roy) and Claire’s parents, Julia Moriston (We Hunt Together‘s Hermione Corfield) and Henry Beauchamp (Treadstone‘s Jeremy Irvine). The series will center on these two parallel love stories set in two different time periods, with Jamie’s parents in the early 18th century Scottish Highlands and Claire’s parents in WWI England.

Fleshing out this world are four more castings: Rory Alexander (Hulu’s Pistol) as a young Murtagh Fitzgibbons Fraser, Sam Retford (Coronation Street) as headstrong Dougal MacKenzie, Séamus McLean Ross as Dougal’s shrewd older brother Colum, and Conor MacNeill (Industry) as a young Ned Gowan. These roles were originated on Outlander by Duncan LaCroix, Graham McTavish, Gary Lewis and Bill Paterson, respectively.

“We are thrilled to expand our Season 1 cast with some well-known characters from the Outlander universe,” Blood of My Blood showrunner Matthew B. Roberts said in a statement. “We’re so excited to welcome Rory, Sam, Séamus and Conor to the MacKenzie and Fraser clans and to explore the young journeys of these fan-favorite characters.

Production on Outlander: Blood of My Blood‘s 10-episode season is underway in Scotland.

Outlander itself will back with the last eight episodes of Season 7 later this year, and is already renewed for a 10-episode farewell season, to begin production shortly in Scotland.
