OU football’s 2024 schedule is complete: See full list of SEC opponents, dates for Sooners
NORMAN — OU’s first SEC slate doesn’t start off easy.
But the last two games of the Sooners’ inaugural season in the league will be particularly tough.
OU hosts Alabama on Nov. 23 before closing out the regular season at LSU on Nov. 30, the SEC announced Wednesday night as it revealed its 2024 conference slate on ESPN and the SEC Network.
Both OU and Texas will head into their first meeting as SEC rivals heading off of bye weeks.
The Sooners and Longhorns will face off Oct. 12 at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas.

“Here they are now jumping into the deep end of the pool and we’re going to find out how well they’re going to handle it,” ESPN’s Greg McElroy said of the SEC’s two newest members on the schedule reveal show.
The Sooners will also have a bye week Nov. 16 ahead of their final two-game gauntlet.
OU will open SEC play against Josh Heupel and Tennessee on Sept. 21 in Norman.
Heupel, who led the Sooners to the 2000 national championship as the Sooners’ starting quarterback, was an assistant coach under Bob Stoops from 2006-14 before being let go as Stoops brought in Lincoln Riley to run the offense.
“There’s going to be a lot of revenge and emotion on his mind but it’s also an opportunity for Tennessee to make a statement,” the SEC Network’s Paul Finebaum said of Heupel on the schedule reveal show.

The Sooners’ first SEC road game will be played Sept. 28 at Auburn, a place OU has never played.
OU will follow the Red River Rivalry at home against South Carolina on Oct. 19 before playing at Ole Miss on Oct. 26.
The Sooners will renew their longtime rivalry with Missouri on Nov. 9 in Columbia, Missouri.
OU’s non-conference schedule was mostly known heading into the night, with the Sooners opening the season Aug. 31 against Temple before hosting Houston on Sept. 7 and Tulane on Sept. 14.
The Sooners’ non-conference finale will be played Nov. 2 at home against Maine.

In Norman: OU leads 1-0
Last meeting: 14-7 Temple win Nov. 21, 1942 in Philadelphia.
Notable: OU’s win in the series was a 9-6 victory on Nov. 23, 1940 in Norman. … The game is the first of a home-and-home series between the programs. The teams will meet in Philadelphia on Sept. 13, 2025.
Sept. 7: Houston Cougars
2023 record: 4-8
Series record: OU leads 3-1
In Norman: OU leads 2-0
Last meeting: 49-31 OU win Sept. 1, 2019 in Norman.
Notable: Though the teams were both in the Big 12 in 2023, they did not play. The Sooners’ lone loss in the series came 33-23 in Houston on Sept. 3, 2016 at NRG Stadium. … The first meeting between the programs came in the 1981 Sun Bowl, a 40-14 OU win. … OU will play at Houston on Sept. 16, 2028 as part of the home-and-home series.
Sept. 14: Tulane Green Wave

In Norman: OU leads 2-0
Last meeting: 40-35 OU win on Sept. 4, 2021.
Notable: The 2021 game was slated to be played in New Orleans, but Hurricane Ida forced the game to be moved to Norman. The other meeting was a 56-14 OU win in 2017.

Sept. 21: Tennessee Volunteers
2023 record: 8-4
Series record: OU leads 3-1
In Norman: OU leads 1-0.
Last meeting: 31-24 double-overtime OU win Sept. 12, 2015 in Knoxville.
Notable: Former Sooners’ quarterback Josh Heupel is the Volunteers’ head coach. … The teams were slated to play during the 2024 season anyway, as part of a home-and-home agreed to seven years ago. But the first meeting, scheduled for 2020 in Norman, was wiped out due to the COVID-19 pandemic, then the 2024 game in Knoxville was wiped out due to the Sooners’ impending move to the SEC.
Sept. 28: At Auburn Tigers
2023 record: 6-6
Series record: 2-0
At Auburn: First meeting
Last meeting: 35-19 OU win Jan. 2, 2017 in Sugar Bowl.
Notable: The only two meetings between the programs have come in the Sugar Bowl — the win to end the 2016 season and a 40-22 OU win on Jan. 1, 1972.

2023 record: 12-1
Series record: Texas leads 63-51-5
At Dallas: Texas leads 50-45-4
Last meeting: 35-19 OU win Jan. 2, 2017 in Sugar Bowl.
Notable: The teams have met every year in Dallas since 1929. … In the first 17 meetings since the series resumed in 1929, the Sooners were just 3-13-1. Since, the Sooners lead the series 40-34-3.
Oct. 19: South Carolina Gamecocks
2023 record: 5-7
Series record: First meeting
Notable: Former OU assistant Shane Beamer (2018-20) is the Gamecocks’ head coach. … South Carolina has played in the state of Oklahoma just once before — a 27-7 win at Tulsa on Nov. 13, 1948.

Oct. 26: At Ole Miss Rebels

Series record: Ole Miss leads 1-0
In Oxford: First meeting
Last meeting: 27-25 Ole Miss win in the 1999 Independence Bowl in Shreveport, Louisiana.
Notable: The lone meeting between the teams came at the end of Bob Stoops’ first season. … The meeting will be OU’s first-ever game in the state of Mississippi.
Nov. 2: Maine Black Bears
2023 record: 2-9
Series record: First meeting
Notable: The game was a late addition to the schedule after the SEC decided on an eight-game conference slate for 2024. … Maine has only faced one SEC opponent previously — a 9-7 win over Mississippi State in 2004. … Maine is a member of the Football Championship Series’ Coastal Athletic Association.
Nov. 9: At Missouri Tigers
2023 record: 10-2
Series record: OU leads 67-24-5
In Columbia: OU leads 31-16
Last meeting: 38-28 OU win Sept. 24, 2011 in Norman.
Notable: The teams were longtime Big 12 and Big Eight rivals, including meeting in the 2007 and 2008 Big 12 Championship Games — both Sooners wins. OU has won eight of the last nine meetings, with the Tigers’ long win coming in 2010 in Columbia.

Last meeting: 45-34 Alabama win Dec. 29, 2018 in Miami, Florida, in a College Football Playoff semifinal.
Notable: OU’s last win came 45-31 on Jan. 2, 2014 in the Sugar Bowl. … The Sooners swept the only on-campus meetings between the programs, winning 37-27 in Norman on Sept. 7, 2002 and 20-13 in Tuscaloosa on Sept. 6, 2003.
Nov. 30: At LSU Tigers

In Baton Rouge: First meeting
Last meeting: 63-28 LSU win on Dec. 28, 2019 in a College Football Playoff semifinal in Atlanta.
Notable: The teams have only met in bowl games — twice in the Sugar Bowl (1949 and 2003 seasons) and the 2019 Peach Bowl. OU’s lone win came Jan. 1, 1950 in the Sugar Bowl, a 35-0 Sooners’ victory.
