OU football: Who are Sooners' top 10 NFL Draft picks since 2000?

The 2024 NFL Draft is set to begin Thursday night in Detroit.

Although OU will likely have fewer draftees than usual, the Sooners have a history of players who have been selected and had successful NFL careers.

Here’s a top 10 ranking of OU NFL draft picks since 2000.

10. Jalen Hurts, QB

Drafted by the Eagles in the second round of the 2020 draft, Hurts led Philadelphia to a Super Bowl appearance during the 2022-23 season. He has earned Pro Bowl selections the last two years and was a second-team All-Pro in 2022.

9. Orlando Brown Jr., OT

Drafted by the Ravens in the third round of the 2018 draft, Brown played for Baltimore from 2018-20, Kansas City for two seasons and has been with Cincinnati since 2023. Brown has put together a solid pro career, earning four Pro Bowl selections and winning a Super Bowl with Kansas City in the 2022-23 season.

8. Mark Andrews, TE

Andrews was drafted by Baltimore in the third round of the 2018 draft and has already solidified himself as the most accomplished tight end in franchise history as he holds several Ravens records, including most single-season receptions (107) and receiving yards (1,361). He set those records in 2021, a year in which he was named a first-team All-Pro.

7. DeMarco Murray, RB

He played for Dallas from 2011-14 after getting selected in the third round of the draft before spending the 2015 season with Philadelphia and his final two seasons with Tennessee. Murray’s best season was in 2014 when he was named the Offensive Player of the Year.

6. Roy Williams, S

Dallas drafted Williams with the eighth pick in the 2002 draft, and he stayed with the Cowboys until 2008 before playing for Cincinnati in 2009 and 2010. Williams was a first-team All-Pro in 2003 and five-time Pro Bowler (2003-07).

5. Gerald McCoy, DT

Taken by Tampa Bay with the third pick in the 2010 draft, McCoy spent 11 years in the NFL and all but three of those were with the Buccaneers. McCoy was a six-time Pro Bowler, two-time second-team All-Pro and was named a first-team All-Pro in 2013.

4. CeeDee Lamb, WR

The Cowboys star just had his best season as he led the NFL with 135 receptions in the regular season and was named a first-team All-Pro. Lamb was taken by Dallas with the 17th pick in 2020.

3. Lane Johnson, OT

The Eagles selected Johnson with the fourth pick in 2013, and he’s spent his whole career in Philadelphia. Johnson helped the Eagles win the Super Bowl during the 2017-18 season and is a two-time first-team All-Pro and two-time second-team All-Pro.

2. Trent Williams, OT

He was drafted by Washington with the fourth pick in 2010, and he remained with the franchise until 2019 before joining San Francisco, where he remains. Williams has consistently been one of the best offensive tackles in the NFL. He’s an 11-time Pro Bowler and three-time first-team All-Pro.

1. Adrian Peterson, RB

He quickly made his presence known after getting selected by the Vikings with the seventh pick in the 2007 draft as he had a dominant debut season and was named the Offensive Rookie of the Year. Peterson was named the Most Valuable Player in 2012 and a first-team All-Pro four times. He led the NFL in rushing yards three times and was the rushing touchdowns leader twice. He was a member of seven teams from 2007-2021 but spent the majority of his career with the Vikings, starring for Minnesota from 2007-16.
