Ottawa Sheriff's Office names two arrested after Ohio 2 chase

PORT CLINTON - The Ottawa County Sheriff's Office released the names and charges of two people who were arrested after a high-speed chase along Ohio 2 on April 10.

Both were still being held in the Ottawa County Jail and deputies are still searching for a third person involved in the April 10 incident.

James Putnam, 18, Toledo, was charged with failure to comply with an order of a police officer/deputy, a third degree felony. and with obstructing official business, a fifth-degree felony.

Also arrested was Melanie Ann Keil, 20, Toledo, who is charged with obstructing official business, a second-degree misdemeanor.

Deputies searching for third suspect

Sheriff's Capt. Aaron Leist said the suspects were being held in the detention center as of Thursday morning. The search is continuing for the third person, who ran from a vehicle that crash into a ditch Wednesday.

An Ottawa County Sheriff's Office deputy was involved in a high-speed chase of nearly 130 mph early Wednesday morning.

At about 3:20 a.m. Wednesday deputy Collin Salyers stopped to check a vehicle stopped on Ohio 2 in a no parking zone area. When the deputy approached the vehicle, it fled at a high rate of speed, according to a news release from the Sheriff's Office. Saylers and other deputies pursued the vehicle through Erie and Benton townships and into Lucas County on Ohio 2, reaching nearly 130 mph.

Vehicle crashed into ditch in Carroll Township

The vehicle led deputies back into Ottawa County, where it left the roadway and drove about 300 yards and crashed into a drainage ditch in Carroll Township. Three people fled from the vehicle and deputies.

Sgt. Robert Dotson responded with K-9 Kash, who located two individuals, who surrendered. The two people were charged and remain in jail as of Thursday morning.

The area was search by drones and K9 units. The Sheriff's Office asks anyone with information to call the office at 419-734-4404.
