Oshkosh Public Museum is turning 100 with a year of events in 2024, plus more news in your weekly dose

OSHKOSH — Oshkosh Public Museum will celebrate its 100th anniversary during 2024. The museum will host a year-long series of exhibits, events and programs dubbed “OPM 100.”

Here's a look at the special exhibits that are planned:

  • “1920s Oshkosh: Colorful Times in Black and White,” opening Feb. 6.

  • “Sawyer Saga — A Trilogy of Exhibitions Chronicles a Family’s Enduring Legacy.” Part One opening March 15; Part Two opening June 15; Part Three opening Sept. 21.

  • Learn more about Oshkosh history with “American Girls: 1920s History with Claudie” Feb. 24. Tickets required.

  • Preserving Memories Workshops will be offered on “How to Care for Your Family Photos” April 20 and “How to Care for Your Treasured Textiles” Oct. 5.

Some of the special events include the following:

  • Feb. 9: Date Night at the Museum. Hors d’oeuvres and history provided. Tickets required.

  • May 11: Historic Osh Hop. Visit The Doe House, The Corbett House, and more to be announced.

  • Nov. 2: Día de los Muertos. Third annual free event.

  • Nov. 8: A Toast to a Century: OPM 100 Reception.

Oshkosh Parks has new facility available to rent

The Four Seasons Building is a new facility, now available for rentals, on the east side of Lakeshore Park at the north end of Punhoqua Street, with access to the Oshkosh Riverwalk.

The modern structure has high ceilings and glass walls. It is available year-round and is equipped with air conditioning and heat. The building has restrooms inside and out, as well as a wraparound deck.

The venue is ideal for weddings, graduations, anniversaries, corporate functions and other events, and accommodates up to 96 people seated.

The rental includes the use of tables and chairs.

The facility also has a kitchenette with refrigerator/freezer, counter space with electrical outlets, a handwashing sink, and a pass-through serving window.

To rent the facility, contact the Oshkosh Parks Department at 920-236-5080 or in person at 805 Witzel Ave. Office hours are 8 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4:30 p.m. weekdays. The rental fee must be paid in full when making a reservation.

Rental fees, tax included, range from $236.25 to $341.25, depending on day of the week and if you are a resident of Oshkosh.

Joint town hall to be held Feb. 5 for local legislators

The League of Women Voters of Appleton-Fox Cities will host a virtual Legislative Town Hall 6:30 to 8 p.m. Feb. 5. The Town Hall is co-sponsored by the Greater Green Bay and Winnebago County Leagues, as portions of state legislative districts overlap.

The League of Women Voters is nonpartisan and does not endorse or support any political party or candidate.

All local legislators have been invited to participate, and legislators from both parties are expected to join the Town Hall. The event will be held even if not all elected representatives participate.

Garden Club discussion topic is monarch butterflies

The Oshkosh Garden Club will meet at 5:45 p.m. Feb. 8 at Delta Restaurant, 515 N. Sawyer St.

The meeting begins at 5:45 p.m. with socializing and dinner (optional) at 6:30 p.m. The monthly meeting will follow at 7 p.m.

This month's speaker is Chris Bellis from Save A Monarch Association, who will talk about the monarch and how we can be their friends.

Fire Escape offers new social event, Speed Painting

Fire Escape is introducing a new event, Speed Painting, Feb. 9. It’s like speed dating, but Fire Escape style. It will run 7 to 9:30 p.m. at 927 Oregon St.

This event is designed for those looking to get out of their comfort zone and meet new people. No artistic talent is needed, just have fun.

There will be a canvas everyone will have a part in, and at the end, names will be drawn to see who gets to take the canvas(es) home.

Test your puzzle-building skills at Feb. 10 competition

The Hooper Community Center will host the inaugural Jigsaw Puzzle Competition Feb. 10. The competition will run 4 to 7 p.m. at the center, 36 Broad St.

Put your puzzle skills to the test. Play in teams of four. Registration is $80 per team. Must be 18 or older to participate.

Additional challenges will be held throughout the competition, with cash prizes, a cash donation mocktail bar, gift card raffle and more.

Marlin Hill to headline comedy show at the Time

Comic Marlin Hill will headline a comedy show Feb. 10 at the Time Community Theater, 445 N. Main St. The event, hosted by Fox Valley Comedy, begins at 7 p.m.

Hill has headlined at the Apollo Theater and has been seen on HBO, Comedy Central, NBC and Cartoon Network’s “Boondocks.” He has performed with Bernie Mac, Jamie Foxx, Chris Tucker, Mike Epps, The Temptations, Patti Labelle and others.

Also performing are Milwaukee-based comics Allen Edge and Charlie Q.

Psychic fair coming Feb. 11 to Oshkosh

The Oshkosh Psychic Paranormal and Wellness Fair, presented by Meta Para Promotions, will run 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Feb. 11 at the Oshkosh Waterfront Hotel and Conference Center, 1 N. Main St.

The day-long event will feature a variety of psychic readers, holistic healers and wellness experts. Attendees can explore psychic phenomena, take part in wellness workshops and receive personal readings. A marketplace featuring unique spiritual and wellness products will also be included.

Holistic health practitioners will provide services and information about natural healing techniques, including reiki, crystal healing and aromatherapy.

The speaker lineup includes:
