New Orleans inspired restaurant opens in Forsyth. Take a look inside the lavish space

Dine like royalty at Forsyth’s newest restaurant.

Her Majesty Kitchen is now open to serve Middle Georgia.

From its blend of classic New Orleans, Creole cuisine and bold Spanish flavors, this restaurant is one you don’t want to miss.

Although the name might sound familiar.

Chef Chelsia Ogletree, owner of Her Majesty Kitchen, first opened her pop-up catering restaurant on Johnston Street in Forsyth in 2020.

However, after Old Mill Market Company in Forsyth announced their closure in 2023, Chef Chelsia Ogletree decided to pack up and move just a little further down the road.

She revealed that people near and far reached out after the announcement of Old Mill’s closure and expressed their hope that she would purchase the building.

“It was really a godsend that Old Mill was selling this place and I prayed a lot over it. Like I really prayed a lot,” Ogletree said. “I wanted a bigger space to serve, try different things and host events.”

Looks like the prayers were answered because on April 30, Her Majesty Kitchen opened its doors at the new location on East Adams Street.

It was the first phase of the restaurant’s opening, but Ogletree shared she has a couple of projects she still wants to do. She wants to put more shelving behind the bar and along the walls and reupholster some seating. The restaurant is also waiting on its liquor license which will be ready in June.

When I visited the restaurant, I was blown away by the look of the restaurant. It not only felt finished, but fully party ready.

On the outside, there is a lovely outdoor patio area, which felt ready for live music or a simple photo op.

From the moment I walked in, I felt transported to a swanky New Orleans jazz bar. There was a velvet seating area to my right, warm bakery to my left and a gorgeous hostess area, complete with a stunning chandelier. As I walked around, the intricate details didn’t disappoint.

There’s a juxtaposition of textures, from more velvet to smooth marble on the bar, wood tables and brick walls. There’s also a rich contrast of colors: reds, golds and blacks, with touches of green, purple and gray.

Near the bar, there’s a high top table with photos and a Shakespeare quote. Continuing the literary vibes, there are plenty of prop books throughout the entryway, with a floral wallpaper adding a feminine touch.

And let’s not forget the legendary jazz instrument wall.

Chef’s kiss to the decor. It’s giving southern jazz royalty. But speaking of royalty, how did the restaurant get its name?

“I actually got the name after a week of fasting and prayer in 2008,” Ogletree said. “‘Her Majesty’ is based on Romans 8:17, which talks about being heirs of God, making us majestic and royalty.”

As far as the menu, Ogletree said, much like her other location, she will have a rotating menu. However, this one will be updated quarterly, as opposed to weekly or monthly.

The current menu is a “sneak peek” menu. On it, there are appetizers like crawfish bread and boudin balls, as well as entrees like crispy shrimp po’boy, pineapple jerk shrimp tacos, bourbon salmon and a roasted cornish hen.

And we must discuss the scrumptious bakery items from Lenise Leknes, who works alongside Ogletree.

Leknes’ bakery, called Treats with Lenise, is a full bakery inside Her Majesty which offers cupcakes, cakes, cookies, macarons, cheesecakes, cinnamon rolls and flan. As if that’s not enough, Leknes also makes homemade beef or chicken empanadas.

Custom orders are available, and Treats with Lenise can be booked for events like birthday parties, weddings, showers, reunions, gender reveals and more.

“We want people to go and make memories with their family, friends or children and not have to worry about what’s for dessert,” Leknes said. “It is all about servantship and how we can make them feel loved.”

In addition to live music twice a month and other special events, Her Majesty Kitchen can be booked for catering or rented out for receptions, parties and more.

Stay tuned for other events and follow the restaurant on social media for announcements and booking information.
