Originated in 1991, this restaurant plans to leave Boise. Here’s where it will reopen

If you’ve lived in Boise for a few years, you probably know about Dong Khanh Vietnamese Restaurant.

Opened in 1991, according to Idaho Statesman archives, it’s changed owners. Even locations. Dong Khanh occupied the end of a Broadway Avenue strip mall near Front Street before moving south to its current spot, 2137 S. Broadway.

Now it plans to change cities. Dong Khanh is moving west.

To Meridian.

Fans in Boise still have a few months, at least, to enjoy Dong Khanh’s tasty food. But, at some point, owner Vuong Nguyen plans to relocate the longtime business to 3,165 square feet of modern space at 4610 N. Linder Road, suite 100, in Meridian.

“We will close the Broadway location down once we know the time frame of the new restaurant ready to be occupied,” Nguyen explained in an email.

The expectation is late August or September, he said, “but not sure yet.”

Dong Khanh is located in Boise, for now, at 2137 S. Broadway Ave.

Additional attempts to reach Nguyen were unsuccessful.

Boise’s loss will be West Ada County’s gain — especially in Meridian, which is home to so many chains. The locally owned Dong Khanh rates 4.5 out of 5.0 stars on Google. Its Vietnamese cuisine is described by reviewers as “the best pho in town, hands down,” and “the best cha gio in the Valley.” Dong Khanh also offers Chinese food on its menu.

Yelp gives the restaurant 4.0 out of 5.0, with one review calling it “a wonderful little hole in the wall for delicious, authentic Vietnamese food in Boise.”
