Moon Studios, the developer behind the highly acclaimed Ori games, is bringing a new take to the action RPG genre with No Rest for the Wicked. The game, up until now, has been shrouded in mystery. After an in-depth gameplay and world overview, No Rest for the Wicked has been confirmed to be releasing soon, but there’s a catch. Unlike the Ori games, Moon Studios’ next game will be released in early access, growing with direct feedback from the players.

It may look like an average isometric dungeon crawler with a different art direction, but No Rest for the Wicked plays very differently. Don’t let the top-down view fool you, the game features an animation-based combat system with a soft class system. Combat is an essential part of the game, and will keep getting more complex with a variety of systems through to the endgame.

The Wicked Inside showcase revealed a lot more about the game’s world, combat, settlements, and other elements. Unlike Moon Studios' previous game, Wicked will be published by Private Division, so it's not going to be a console exclusive.

Wicked's combat is "precision-based", meaning that your positioning and physical stats of weapons like their weight will play a big part in the combat. Set in the year 841, you'll play as a Cerim, a member of an ancient sect whose goal is to drive off the Pestilence, a plague that's taking over the kingdom.

After the showcase, many outlets published their first impressions of the game following preview sessions, but the consensus is clear: It looks like a Diablo clone, but it plays a lot like From Software's games.

"We have been dreaming of being able to contribute to the ARPG genre that we all grew up with and love. After the success of Ori, it was clear to us that Moon was now mature enough to finally realize those dreams,” said Thomas Mahler, Co-Founder and Creative Director at Moon Studios. “We can't wait to see how players will react to this entirely new take on the genre!"
