Oregon WR D’onte Thornton enters the transfer portal

The Oregon Ducks lost the Civil War game and lost out on a chance to play in the Pac-12 title game.

Then, shortly after, wide receiver D’onte Thornton entered the transfer portal and is looking for another program to play for after an underwhelming season (h/t Zachary Neel of Ducks Wire).

Thornton, who is a former 4-star recruit, found some success late in the season after an injury to WR Chase Cota made room for him in the starting lineup, but he was never able to find his ceiling in Eugene after being a highly-touted recruit from Baltimore coming to Oregon in 2021.

One interesting thing to note that Neel points out: Thornton had Arizona State on his list before going to Oregon. And, what do you know, former Oregon OC Kenny Dillingham just became the new head coach for the Sun Devils. The writing might be on the wall for a Pac-12 move to the desert for Thornton.

Thornton had just 17 catches for 366 yards and a score this year, with a four-catch game for 151 yards against Utah. Thornton is one of the most interesting names in the portal, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see him go to Arizona State with Dillingham.
