Steve Harvey is one of the busiest men in Hollywood, and his schedule is about to get even more packed thanks to Season 3 of Judge Steve Harvey. The primetime courtroom show, which launched in early 2022, follows Harvey as he presides over big and small disputes brought by real people.

If you’re wondering whether Harvey secretly went to law school at some point in his career, the answer is no: He has zero qualifications for adjudicating legal disputes. He says this isn’t an issue, however, because his years of life have taught him how to read people.

“I knew I had to just be myself,” he told TV Insider in 2022. “Most judges are interested in the law: These are the facts, and that’s it. I’m going to dig up the story behind why people came to court vs. what they’re in court for. I lean on decades of experience dealing with all types of situations and people, and I rely on my street savvy, common sense and humor to get it done.”

While he’s not a real judge, he still presides over his courtroom with authority—and has no trouble sussing out when his plaintiffs and defendants aren’t telling the truth. “There are little tells people have,” he explained. “You can see their eye movement and hear their voice inflection. I know this, so I get to the truth a lot better than most.”

What is Judge Steve Harvey Season 3 about?

In the grand tradition of Judge Judy and The People’s Court, Judge Steve Harvey is an arbitration-based reality show where a judge—in this case Steve Harvey—settles legal disputes between two parties. Unlike Judy Sheindlin and the late Joseph Wapner, however, Harvey has no real legal background at all, which means Judge Steve Harvey is far more comedic in tone than a typical courtroom show. According to Harvey, his lack of legal training poses no problems because his common sense is all he needs to determine right from wrong.

In the past, Harvey has presided over cases about unpaid loans, mismanaged funds, feuds over childcare and more. In one memorable case, two sisters were fighting over the fact that one of them had used money earmarked for their brother’s funeral to get a Brazilian butt lift.

While the show is mostly comedic, Price’s background as a real bailiff means that she’s not afraid to break up a fight. “Nancy's from a court where people are in there for kidnapping, drug charges, violent crimes,” Harvey told ABC7 in 2022. “So she has a knack of knowing when to step in.”

Rubin Ervin

Rubin Ervin, who also works with Steve Harvey on Family Feud, warms up the audience and appears at the start of each episode. He also instructs the courtroom to rise when Harvey makes his entrance.
